It's a lockdown Sunday and I've been alphabetising my records.
So, does Patti Smith Group get filed under P or S? I insisted P but now I'm wavering...
I had a similar debate about where I should keep my 10,000 Maniacs albums. When I bring the band to mind, I think; 'Ten Thousand Maniacs'. So to pull one of their albums out, would I automatically begin flicking through the T's to find them next to Ten City in the collection? Maybe. But deep down, I know that's all wrong so I have reluctantly, put them with other numerically monikered bands, ahead of the A's.
Then there's soundtracks and compilations. They don't join the main index. Do they? Well at mine they now have their very own RPM Colour Cube. You should try one... available in our online shop.
It was a joy to come across some long forgotten albums as I sorted through; some pretty cool, some disastrous, but with each one I remember who and where I was when it first became mine.
As a footnote, the sleeve art that has aged the least well - in my collection - is the Detroit Emeralds - Let's Get Together album (beige shoes!!). I leave it with you:
